Who Would Think...

that a boy who is so particular about every little thing might be laid back enough to wear two different colored shoes every day. I never would have guessed it. In his own little toddler way, he insists on wearing one of each color. He will no longer just put on two of the same. Since they are actual Disney Crocs...it makes for an expensive pair of shoes. Good thing Grandma bought the green ones!

We also spent a good chunk of the day doing this...yeah for summer!

Question and Answer Time

Question: If you accidentally drop a stick of deodorant into a flushing toilet and it gets stuck in the bend of the porcelain and not even a toilet snake and/or a plunger can get it out, how much will it cost you?

Answer: $225.00 and one very irate property manager.

Why Didn't I Know About This Sooner?

I have lived in the same apartment since long before Lucas was even a twinkle in my eye. I have no idea how I am only now learning about this incredible park just down the road from us that we have started frequenting several times a week....I think the t-shirt is perfect...."Getting Dirty Since 1837"...truer words were never spoken, every time I put him in the tub after a trip to the park it turns into a murky mud puddle!

All About Me

I had the best spa day at Top Notch on Friday. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, it was 90 degrees and all of the construction on the new pool decks was complete. Perfect day. I got my back rubbed, my feet rubbed, my head rubbed. It doesn't get any better. I owe my mother the biggest thank you in the whole world. Not only giving me the spa day for my birthday, but also keeping Lucas from morning 'til night so I could enjoy every thing the spa had to offer without worrying about rushing home.

I am already looking forward to next year!

Just One More...

I just need to get this one down so I never, ever forget it....

As we were leaving for my birthday lunch this weekend, my Mom comes out of the house in a great, purple, low cut billowy blouse. Lucas let out a gasp from his carseat, and when she got to the car he hollered out..."Oh Amma, you look so bootiful!" He kept repeating himself for a few miles..."you really look so bootiful, Amma...you really do!"

Oh...it doesn't get much better...

We Can't Be Late

So... I overslept a play date this morning and Lucas and I were like, an hour late, which is a bummer because he was really looking forward to seeing his buddies. I made the mistake of telling Lucas to "hurry, hurry, hurry, we're going to be late!" The entire ride 25 minute ride was filled with Luke's worried little voice from the back seat..."you have to hurry, my fwends are waiting, I can't be late!" (He's a worrier like his Grandma.... *wink* )

We got to the "fwends" house and he jumps out of car and starts yelling..."I'm here boys, it's me Lucas!" But, then gets inside the condo and sort of whines about everything, especially sharing.
But then demands to go home (when everyone was going home) and gets to the car and starts to cry because he doesn't want to leave his buddies. And people wonder why I'm always a little bit exhausted!

Good thing he's so darn cute!

He Does Love Me

Usually he doesn't miss me at all when I leave...he actually demands that I go to work even on my days off, but today when I told him to get ready for Grandma's, he latched on to me and said over and over..."I'm gonna miss you all monin' Mommy" All morning! He does love me!

A Happy Birthday

Thank you to everyone who called to wish me Happy Birthday, and sent cards, and presents, and cake, and cupcakes, and, and, and.....

I had a great birthday filled with the people I love. Lucas took me (and Mom and Ben) out to lunch and behaved beautifully. He took me to the movies in the afternoon as well, Shrek 3, excellent film. Did I mention he spent the whole day in his underwear? That was a super gift, too...no soggy wet pull-ups for an entire day...heaven!

I got a huge basket filled with scrap booking supplies, so that's a great incentive to get back on the ball with my scrap booking. My spa day is coming up on the 25th, so that's something dreamy to look forward to...nothing like making a day drag on for week full of fun!

WooHoo!

Cake! A friend of mine at work baked me a cake for my birthday and brought it today because she knew it would be the last time she'd see me before next week. How sweet is that?! I've have worked in this hospital for 12 years, and I can't remember anyone baking me a cake, although I have a few very delicious Friendly's ice cream cakes over the years. And this was a really tasty cake...this friend owns a bakery...this cake was from scratch...carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. YUM! Happy Birthday to me!

Stinky Work

I have to be at work by 3pm. That means that by 1:30pm, I need to physically be in the shower, or have already taken a shower, to be to work on time. It takes me that long. I don't do anything special to get ready...I even wear scrubs which takes all the guess work out of getting dressed, but we still always manage to be in a terrible rush from 1:30pm until I fly through the doors of the hospital at 3:00pm. Every day as I throw together Luke's backpack and my dinner, I tell him..."hurry, hurry, hurry...Mommy has to go to stinky work, and you have to go Grandma's!" It's a chant he hears four days a week. On the way to Grandma's today to drop him off he fell asleep. I carried him into the living room and layed him on the couch, and he opened his sweet little eyes and said..."Go to stinky work, PLEASE!" And then he rolled over and fell back asleep. It's good to know he's going to miss me.

Happy Mother's Day!

So even though he has a fever, and burning pink cheeks, and a runny nose, and a cough, and a scratchy throat...Luke gave me a lovely Mother's Day present (Yankee candle with plate and topper) and a lovely bunch of hugs and kisses. Also, he made made me laugh stomping around the house in both striped pj bottoms and shorts demanding that I wipe his nose, 'cause he's siiiiiiick! Poor boy, guess that means no breakfast in bed for me! ;-)

We gave Grandma a pair of these...And also a pair of these...

Because we love to give Grandma gifts every once in a while...she does mean the world to us!

Happy Mother's Day...from us to you!

That's One Well Loved Baby!

Introducing his little pink bunny, Meme (although her name started out as Emily), his most prized possession, loved above all others. He told me today to take their picture while "she's hidin' my eyes!" So there you have it!

Only Big Boys Play Video Games...

He has a rough life, huh?

Newest New Haircut

I'm really starting to like it short...by summer it might be a buzz cut!

Gazillions?

Lucas had a buddy over last week, and that buddy brought a brand new Finding Nemo bubble blower with him to play. For the first few minutes that bubble blower worked like a charm. Bubbles spewing everywhere...laughing, happy children...and then it didn't. The boys were having so much fun out in the sunshine chasing bubbles that I sat on the grass and blew bubbles until my head was spinning. Luke was very sad to see it go, so I promised him we could get one as well. Of course, I don't really want to get him the same one...because it might not work for long. So we pick out a really cool alien/space ship/rocket ship blower that promises GAZILLIONS of bubbles. Sounds perfect, right? Except that this is how many you really get.....

Maybe the term GAZILLIONS was over the life of the toy? Even still, I'm not sure we'll ever get that many...but the bubbles it does spit out produce a smile like this...

He does still have the nerve to tell me (every time he plays with it) that it is not Finding Nemo.

Ernie and Bert!

I got home from work today at the lovely hour of 3:30am...which wouldn't have been so bad if my dear, sweet son hadn't been wide awake for the day at 6:00am. Did I mention he didn't take a nap? Surely I mentioned that...no nap. And while he is usually very accommodating and lets me sleep on the couch during his lineup of morning Disney channel shows, today was no such day.

Even still, it is hard to be cross with a pants-less boy even when your soooooo tired. Lucas spent most of the morning in just an old, comfy t-shirt that used to be Ben's. It makes the potty training process so much easier when he doesn't have to struggle to peel off pants and unders before he has an accident. We've only used a handful of diapers for naps and bedtime in the last week. It's hard to believe he might actually be completely potty trained in the near future, although I'm not sure the day will ever come when I don't pack a spare pair of pants in the trunk! Also, we jokingly nicknamed his cute little bare buns Ernie and Bert today...I know some of you will remember another pair of buns with that same nickname! :-)

He's Ready for Hollywood

I know that Luke watches his Disney Cars movie a lot, but my little Spielberg can now act out and direct just about every scene from the movie. Today Ben and I chased and got chased around the lilac bush at Grandma's while Lucas bossed us around...I mean...directed the action. He was Lightening McQueen, Ben was Tow Mater and I was lucky enough to be Frank (not a prime role). I ran around trying to catch them both while Lucas tipped over the plastic Adirondack chairs making moo-ing noises (you would have to watch the movie...trust me, the scene is just exactly like that.) Who says kids who watch too much television are couch potatoes...I couldn't catch either one!

So Cute!

I read several blogs everyday that I can't get enough of, and one of them gave some tips about taking a better picture of your kid...so I tried the "extreme closeup" here...

Cute, huh? And here...

I guess I should've wiped his face first! :-)

And the "focus on something other than his face shot"...which I do a lot of anyway...

I think poor Lucas is in for a summer full of "Smile at Mommy!"

He's Already Got Good Buddies...

I was taking pictures of Lucas and his buddy, Sam, at their playdate today. The sun was shining and the kids were having a great time together. Lucas has this kid-size ATV that we stored on the back deck this winter, and unfortunately, it now only goes in reverse. (I'm thinking I should have stored it in the basement instead...) The kids were taking turns trying to get it to go and they ended up in the middle of the yard. I snapped this shot as they helped each other push it back to the deck. When I saw the shot through the viewfinder of my camera, my mind flashed forward a few years to Lucas as a teenager pushing a dead car to the side of the road with his friend Sam and it made my smile. I hope they're friends long enough to have that happen...

(rabbit rabbit!)
