I Will Never Have to Put Him in Timeout

Lucas walked up to me today with his bottom lip stuck straight out, obviously upset but I wasn't sure why.

"Why so sad buddy?"

"I thought about biting you and that's not very nice."

"Really? But you don't ever bite...why did you want to bite me?"

"I don't know...but I thought about it...so I'll be in my room."

And he then he marched himself right upstairs and put himself in timeout. He was up there for a while. To be honest, I got watching a cheesy Lifetime movie and I sort of forgot he was up there, but when he came downstairs he was happy as can be and ready to play. This is not at all what I imagined raising a four year old might be like.

??Put HIMSELF in timeout?? I guess you won't have to worry about biting, a common headache for moms of four-year-olds!! I can hardly wait to visit! Be sure to check your email!

Well ... it's NOT what raising a 4 year old is REALLY like - you lucked out and got yourself a little 4 year old angel!

Cute story!

Have a good evening - Kellan

Funny, Son put himself in a time out the other day, too! Everyone I know said that 22 month olds are too young for time-outs, but they did that for Son at daycare anyway (when he bit).

So I tried to do that at home--when he got in the cat's food, messed with the dog's water.

The other day he climbed up on a chair and looked at the cat's food and said "Kitty food. Time out."

Then he got back down, walked over to the couch, and sat where I used to put him time out.

Can you believe that? Of course, he also bit someone at school today so... take that for what you will.

haha. My daughter puts herself in the corner all of the time. The other day she did something then just looked at me and said, " I KNOW! I KNOW! I'm going to to the corner."

Coincidently on the other end of the spectrum, my son bit me twice the other day. He hasn't bitten me in at least two years and hasn't sat for time out without a fight in as many years. Lucas may be in touch with his dramatic side, but his sensitivity sure does have it's benefits.
