Crazy for Colorforms

I found these funny face Colorforms right before Christmas and got so excited...I used to LOVE Colorforms as a child...mine were just shapes though...nothing as fancy as funny purple-headed-singing-barber-shop-man Colorforms. Somehow, in the deluge of gifts on Christmas day, this one got forgotten...and he spied it in the bookcase while he was "helping" me clean. We ripped the wrapper off and dove right it, but playing by the rules was kind of a drag, so we chucked the spinner and just went to town. Apparently I am too uptight to just put body parts anywhere and my two (mostly out of the frame) are perfect (like the girl game piece had to have all the girlie pieces, and could not, under any circumstances sport, say, a mustache), totally ruining the point of the game, I think...but Luke's were just right...crazy and lopsided. He totally gets it.

Throwdown...Bobby Flay Style

Are any of you die-hard foodies? Addicted to the Food Network? Pouring over kid friendly cookbooks daily? Well, we are!

We had ourselves a bit of a throwdown today, a la Bobby Flay, and our dish was good 'ole mac-n-cheese. His offering was Kraft Spongebob mac-n-cheese, mine was actual made-from-scratch mac-n-cheese. We brought our completed dishes to the table to begin the judging. Of course, we were the only two participates, making us the only two judges...you can see were this was going, right? You would think that we'd be in a deadlock...but no...Lucas won the challenge. Even though his totally lame box mix was totally lame and from a box, he declared it was both tender, and that he could really taste the cheese, which of course made me melt into a puddle of gooey proud mama and I handed him the title of Throwdown Champion and also the title of Best Kid Ever. So...good day.

I Think the Internet is Broken...Or Maybe It's Just That Google Hates Me...

I want to take Lucas in for a haircut on Wednesday in preparation for the big #4 birthday...but whenever I try to find hairstyles online for boys, I just get pages full of a million links to other sites, and when I follow any of those links my computer starts to smoke and the screen melts...or maybe I just get more garbage pages full of useless info and no pictures. I want him to have a nice haircut and I am quite useless with a pair of scissors, so trying to do it myself is sort of out of the question unless I want all his party guests making fun of him for looking like...well...like his mother cuts his hair.

He has these charming double cowlicks at the back of his head and they swirl in opposite directions, so when I tell the ladies at his kid's salon to kind of cut it shorter in the front but a little bit longer around the cowlicks they snip his rather large melon into a toddler mullet...and that my friends, will never do for a young man on the brink of four. If anyone has any suggestions or links to kid's cuts...please let me know!

Quote of the Day

Lucas was watching Nickelodeon this morning and some little blurb came on about making good choices when snacking. He came barrelling into the kitchen in his little boxer briefs with his hands on his hips and a scowl on his face.

"You didn't tell me!"

"I didn't tell you what, buddy?"

"You didn't tell me that CHIPS were BAD for my BODY!"

"But honey...how could they be bad when they taste so good!?"

"Oh...okay."

(He has to be relieved...he would eat chips for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I let him.)

Crush

Lucas had a little crush on our loan officer at the bank when we went in on Thursday. She was tall and thin and blond...and more than a little ditsy...everything a red blooded American boy would want in a mate. She smiled at him swinging his legs and drinking his water from a coffee cup with a sippy top. She laughed at his knock-knock jokes. If I dared to look away from her to anything else in the room, he would point right at me and then point at her...like how dare I turn my attention from his true love to glance at a sign for low rate mortgages. How rude. How disrespectful! And when she left to go make copies he begged to go with her..."for just a teensy weensy minute?" I said no because I'm mean. When it was time to go he told her we were going to park our new silver car in the garage all the time, which is interesting since we don't have a garage...actually...nobody we know parks their car in a garage. It is a mystery to me how that boy's mind works.

Wii Are Having a Blast!

I'm hooked. This is way more fun than V-Smile...but don't tell Lucas.

Happiest Boy Ever

Sitting next to his little buddy...happy as a clam. He spent the whole 100 mile car ride commenting on much he "wuvs" her!

Yippee!

Well, I did it. I bought Lucas a new(ish) Honda Civic for his 4th birthday...'cause I am the BEST MOMMY EVER! I have been jokingly promising him a new car for his birthday for almost an entire year, and today I came through. And for the record? This Civic...it doesn't squeal when you start it in the bitter cold, it doesn't chug-a-lug when you start it in the rain, and it doesn't go BOMP BOMP BOMP down a bumpy road...because it (and we) are now fancy! I shall never be able to top this gift, I'm afraid..but hey...we're driving in style now.

Tidbits

Anyone else humming the soundtrack to the movie Juno? No? Well you should...it rocks. It's fun in that quirky way...so that Lucas likes the beat and I like the lyrics. Fun for everyone, and my ears don't have to bleed from listening to his kiddie music for the 100 millionth hour in a row...yah!

I'm off to test drive a few cars tomorrow...Hello President's Day Sale!...what nice timing you have! Wish me luck.

Lucas and I have eaten our weight in homemade chex mix this weekend thanks to my friend Barb. I brought it in to work last night but the folks pounced so hard on the bag I decided to hide it away and not bring it back tonight. (It is a very big bag...but it's my very big bag.)

I am finally no longer sick with the pukey virus or a cold...maybe for the first time in 2008...and I want to go out and celebrate...but I don't want to be exposed to the germs of the world at large...so I'm staying home...'cause I'm wild and crazy like that.

Just Like On Broadway...Only Cheesier!

We went to see Go, Diego, Go Live! on Wednesday. I had so much fun! I mean...Lucas had so much fun! We salsa'd and tango'd and merengue'd our way though both acts. And you know, with the exception of a creepy guy in a Click the Camera costume...it was a really good show. However, despite our excellent seats and my willingness to dance and snap and growl like a wee little jaguar, all Lucas can rememeber about the show is that he didn't get a Spongebob ice cream on a stick. Figures...

For Real This Time...

Okay! It's really time to trade in my car for a newer! better! model. And I'm actually getting excited instead of terrified. I'll be honest. I'm cheap. And if I can drive a car for no money, why would I choose to drive a very similar car that I would then have to pay for? But it's time...past time, to be truthful. I just don't like making decisions that involve me parting with my hard earned money, you know? I don't like having too many choices with big ticket items because I will spend an eternity waffling back and forth. (Which is why I'm still driving my Corolla a year after I started saying that it was time to trade it in.) I like it best when I have a need and a sensible solution just lands in my lap. No fuss, no muss. And maybe...just maybe...my solution landed in my inbox today...so keep your fingers crossed for me that I'll love this car...the price is good and it sounds like it has everything I'm looking for. Hopefully, by this time next week, we'll have a new set of wheels. Also...I told Lucas I was buying him a new car for his 4th birthday and that's just a couple of weeks away so...I've gotta get a move on. How I plan on topping that gift for his 5th birthday, I have no idea!

20

That's how many days I have left before my toddler becomes a big kid. Four years old. I really can't even wrap my brain around that. I have been his mother for four years? How did that happen? I swear just brought him home from the hospital. And yet, here he his. Playing video games that he is surely too young for, but good at none the less. Making me breakfast (and lunch and dinner) all by himself, discussing ingredient lists and singing me his ABCs at the top of his lungs. He wants a two wheeler for his birthday and it breaks my heart a little...because he was just a baby...like yesterday. It also means this summer will be spent tearing around the neighborhood on a big boy bike, which should shave a few years off my life in worry and skinned knees. We are entering a new phase, he and I, and it's exciting and sad all at the same time.

Yes, I Would Like a Little Cheese With My Whine.

I'm suffering through yet another cold. I know, big deal...a cold. But let me just say, I do believe that I have been some sort of sick or broken for every single day so far in 2008. Grrr. I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired. My big red couch has a big red indent in the center where my big butt has been parked all week. I tired, I worn out and I don't like it. Was that enough whine for 'ya?

My poor kid has been fending for himself a lot the past few days...evidenced by the fact that I found several DOZEN pictures of my pathetic self, mouth agape, sound asleep on the sofa. He is a whiz with the cell phone camera, apparently. I'd post a few for your laughing pleasure, but the little bit of dignity I have left won't allow it.

Think healthy, happy thoughts for me people, I clearly need them.

Every Kind of Gross

Our toilet overflowed today.

*Blech* *Barf* *Double Yuck*

And of course we don't own a plunger, so we made a quickie-quick trip to the hardware store where, LUCKY ME!, plungers were on sale. And since we were right across the street from the bank and the post office I decided to mail off my tax returns and do a little banking. Heh. Totally should have done those errands before purchasing the golden plunger. Lucas could not help himself from telling every person in line at all three places that our toilet had overflowed!, and also that it had poop! in it. Great! The fun part was when he regalled an old lady buying stamps with his story, but of course she was hard of hearing, and kept asking me to repeat what he said louder, so to the delight of all the other post office patrons I got to yell..."THAT'S RIGHT, LADY, OUR POOPY TOILET OVERFLOWED! ENJOY YOUR TEDDY BEAR STAMPS!" Geesh.

Luckily, the whole mess has been resolved, and we now own a very handy plunger with a bright yellow handle.

Quote of the Day

Him: "My heart is racing and I can't catch my breath! My heart is going bomp, bomp, BOMP! Phew!"

Me: "Oh my goodness, honey, what's wrong?"

Him: "Probably I need a snack."

And Today is Not Even My Lazy Day

I didn't get my kid dressed today. He stayed in his pajamas all day...and we went to Costco. The funny part is that Monday is usually my lazy day, what with the no sleep and all, which I guess means that he will wear those pajamas again tomorrow.

I, myself, did wear clean jeans to Costco in lieu of my pj pants...so at least there's that. Heh.

Just Call Us Betty...

We were cooking up a storm today...fancy cupcakes for work and fancy fishsticks and mashed potatoes for lunch...because everything Lucas cooks is fancy. And if you think watching a three year old navigate the kitchen like a pro is fun, you should see him do it in nothing but an apron and chef's hat! Watch out Ladies! And also, please don't tell the folks at work who devoured those cupcakes...they don't need to know his preference for being "nakey". I swear his hands were clean...honest.
